00600	Dear Mr. Leng:
00700	.fac
00800	As you no doubt know, a group in our laboratory has designed a
00900	microprogrammed processor, locally known as "Super Foonly", that
01000	could execute PDP-10 instructions about four times as fast as the
01100	KI10. It achieves this speed primarily through the use of a 2000
01200	word cache memory and S-series TTL logic. Gordon Bell and Alan Kotok
01300	recently participated in a design review of this machine and so are
01400	fairly familiar with its state.
01500
01600	Our sponsor, ARPA, has underwritten the design cost, but is unwilling
01700	to pay for the hardware. Consequently, we are seeking other resources
01800	that will permit us to complete a working machine in our laboratory.
01900	I understand that DEC might have an interest in seeing a processor of
02000	this sort reach a debugged state. We would like you to consider the
02100	degree to which you can support such an undertaking.

02300	One kind of support that would be most helpful would be a contribution
02400	of the parts and services that we were planning to purchase from your
02500	company. This would include the items on the enclosed lists, compiled
02600	earlier with the help of Ken Pierce.
02700	These items constitute about one-third of the total hardware costs.
02800
02900	Of course, we will have to find additional funds in order to finish
03000	the project and are exploring several possibilities. Any commitment
03100	that DEC can make will be greatly appreciated.
